Babymoons: a special time with your new baby
In many cultures throughout time and around the world, the first month of a new baby's life is a time when the new mother is pampered and encouraged to rest and care for herself and her new baby.  But in American culture, it seems that by the time the baby's cord stump falls off, mom is expected to be back to business as usual.  A "babymoon" can be a special time for new mom and baby to take time out from life as usual to focus in on themselves, to heal from birth, and to learn how to breastfeed.  Read more to learn what we believe about the importance of Parenting and our Philosophies of Care.

Babymoons: a honeymoon for Mom & Baby (Breastfeeding MattersTM Home Study Course, Lesson 2)

Your newborn is little for such a short time.  Make the most of it!  This class will encourage you to honor the time following birth as a precious time for bonding with your baby, healing from birth, and learning to breastfeed.  Did you know that recent research indicates that the first two weeks of your baby's life are a critical time that influences your milk supply for the rest of the time you nurse your baby?  Even more reason to make the first month of your baby's life a special time to be "set apart".  This class includes:
  • the rationale for and benefits of a "babymoon"
  • what to expect as you heal from birth and how to prevent problems with your own healing and breastfeeding
  • recognizing and treating or getting help for postpartum difficulties should they occur
  • practical details of planning your own special babymoon, whether this is your first or fourth baby
  • resources & sources of support for new mothers
  • how new dads can help the new mother and bond with their new baby
